ACTS works mainly in four East Africa countries of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Burundi is one of the poorest countries in the world and most densely populated in Africa. The continuation of war in Burundi spanning over twelve years slowed down aid to the country. The fighting has resulted in many refugees and internally displaced people. Most of these people are still suffering from the effects of genocide.

Karusi stands in a lovely countryside North East Burundi, a region badly hit by the genocide.

The area is submerged by idle, deprived children living in camps for internally displaced people, about seven thousand such children.

The World Food Program provides food but nothing else. The vision to build a secondary school could not have been come at a better time!

The election of President Pierre Nkurunziza (translates Good News) in August 2005 concluded Burundi’s process of political transition, a process designed to resolve the conflict between the government and different rebel factions, that began in year 2000.

So, Burundi is returning to peace and is settling down to the enormous task of reconstruction after more than thirty years of civil wars and genocides.

It is a great privilege to be contributing to the reconstruction efforts at this critical time when the Western governments are attempting to “Make Poverty History”!

We are building a secondary school, for deprived children, which in due course will provide practical skills and employment when all the three phases are completed. Further details under Projects.
